Introduction

Eyelid Surgery

The eyelids are typically the first part of the face that begins to show the sequelae of aging.  As early as one’s thirties, the upper eyelids often demonstrate excess hanging skin, and the lower lids develop bulging fat pads or “bags”- these findings lead to a tired appearance that can be bothersome to those who believe that their appearance doesn’t reflect the way they feel. Many people seek surgical rejuvenation of the eyelids instead of injectable treatments to achieve the most lasting and natural appearance.  If you face these challenges, consider scheduling a consultation with Dr. Timberlake, who offers eyelid surgery to patients in and traveling to New York City.

Blepharoplasty

What is Eyelid Surgery?

Eyelid surgery, medically referred to as Blepharoplasty, is a cosmetic procedure aimed at rejuvenating the appearance of the eyelids. It eliminates excess fat and skin in the upper or lower eyelid. It tightens the surrounding area to address concerns such as sagging eyelids, puffiness, under-eye bags, and fine lines.

First steps

Your Consultation

procedure-first-step

To explore the possibility of eyelid surgery in New York City, schedule a consultation with Dr. Timberlake. During this initial appointment, he will carefully evaluate your eyelids and discuss your concerns, goals, and expectations for the procedure. He will also discuss your medical history to see if you have any chronic conditions or anatomic considerations preventing surgery.

If Dr. Timberlake deems you an ideal candidate, he will outline the procedure, including the techniques that could be employed, potential risks and complications, and the expected recovery process.

Based on the consultation, Dr. Timberlake will design a customized treatment plan tailored to your needs. You can then take it to our patient coordinator, who will guide you through the scheduling process and provide pre-operative instructions.

What to expect

What to Expect on the Day of Eyelid Surgery

On the day of your eyelid surgery, you can expect a well-organized and caring experience. Dr. Timberlake and his staff will welcome you and get you settled. He will review your treatment plan, and once everything is in order, a board-certified anesthesiologist will administer anesthesia to ensure your comfort throughout the surgery. Some eyelid procedures can be performed without any form of general anesthesia, only requiring injections for numbing.

Dr. Timberlake will begin the procedure using the techniques and targeting areas identified during the consultation.

Whether it is upper eyelid surgery or lower eyelid surgery, Dr. Timberlake will carefully hide the incisions in natural folds to minimize visible scarring. He will remove excess skin fat and tighten the skin to provide rejuvenated contours that are completely natural-looking.

The surgery typically takes about one to three hours, depending on the complexity of the procedure and the specific patient.

Post Surgery

Eyelid Surgery Recovery

After the surgery is complete, you will be carefully monitored in a recovery area until the effects of anesthesia wear off.

Immediately after the surgery, you will have some ointment around your eyes, but you will be able to see normally. You may experience some mild swelling, bruising, or discomfort, which can be managed with prescribed pain medications. Patients can expect a near-complete recovery within two weeks.

Can I combine an Eyelid Surgery with Other Procedures?

Many of our patients who receive eyelid surgery in New York combine it with other facial rejuvenation procedures to achieve more comprehensive results, including Facelifts, Brow Lifts, and laser resurfacing procedures. During your initial consultation, Dr. Timberlake will inform you of any adjuvant procedures that he thinks might benefit you.

During the initial days of recovery, keeping your head elevated and applying cold compresses to reduce swelling is essential.

Following proper wound care and post-operative instructions is essential for a smooth recovery.
