Chin Implant

New York, NY

Introduction

Chin Implant

A defined jawline is one of the primary goals of facial rejuvenation surgery. For many, a small chin makes obtaining a crisp jawline difficult. A chin implant, medically referred to as a mentoplasty or genioplasty, is a cosmetic surgery that changes the shape and size of a patient’s chin to accentuate the rest of their facial anatomy and profile. Chin implants are small, solid devices made from silicone, molded to fit around the patient’s chin bone. They can vary in size and shape. Dr. Timberlake will help you choose the most naturally fitting custom implant for your case. Once an implant type is selected, a small cut is made under the chin or inside the mouth to insert this chin implant to augment a weak or recessed chin.

Consultation

What’s the First Step?

procedure-first-step

If you’re considering a chin implant, we encourage you to schedule a consultation with Dr. Timberlake at our Manhattan office. During your consultation, you can discuss your medical history, any concerns, desired goals, and expectations regarding your chin and facial appearance. Dr. Timberlake will also examine your chin to determine the best incision sites and help suggest the best type of implant for you. He will show you the kind of implants available so that you can decide what type of implant you might want.

Once you both want to proceed with the surgery, Dr. Timberlake will design your treatment plan.

What to expect

What to Expect on the Day of Chin Implant Surgery

On your chin implant surgery day, Dr. Timberlake and his friendly staff will welcome you, settle in the procedure room, and review the discussed procedure plan to address any last-minute questions and concerns. Then, you will receive either numbing injections by Dr. Timberlake or sedation from our anesthesiologist to ensure a comfortable and pain-free surgery.

Dr. Timberlake will then make a small incision under the chin or inside the mouth. He will then insert the customized implant and ensure maximum enhancement and symmetry of your facial anatomy. Finally, he will close the incision with sutures.

On average, a chin implant surgery usually lasts an hour.

Post Surgery

Chin Implant Recovery

After surgery, Dr. Timberlake and his staff will monitor you in a recovery room until any sedation received wears off.

After the procedure, you can expect very mild swelling, bruising, and discomfort around the chin and jawline.  You will receive detailed post-operative instructions from Dr. Timberlake to ensure a smooth and speedy recovery. These may include taking prescribed medications, using cold compresses to reduce swelling, keeping your head elevated while sleeping, and avoiding strenuous activities for a few weeks.
